How to conduct quick research that drives product decisions in B2B.

Lean research with direct impact on the roadmap

Short interviews, guided by hypotheses, reduce ambiguity and avoid guesswork. The objective is decide with confidence.

1. Objective itinerary

3 blocks: context (tasks), frictions (obstacles), alternatives (workarounds). Avoid answer-inducing questions.

2. Small sample, high learning

5–7 well-distributed interviews per profile reveal enough patterns to prioritize.

3. From insight to action

Convert findings into jobs-to-be-done and user stories with clear acceptance criteria.

How to turn the topic into a hiring decision

In B2B, those who buy, those who approve and those who use can be different people. Searching only for the project sponsor leaves out daily activities. Recruit participants by the roles and tasks that need to be understood.

What to include in the scope

Hire a selection of questions, recruitment, script and synthesis. Prefer reports of recent situations to opinions about imagined features. Record sample limitations and protect information shared in interviews.

How to check delivery

The result should link observations to decisions: which step to simplify, which hypothesis to test and what is not yet known. Quotes without context or a wish list are not enough to prioritize development.
