Asking for “an app that looks like another” rarely produces comparable proposals. The cost depends on the activities the user performs, the data involved and the devices available. For a company, the first decision is whether the job really requires an installed application or whether a web application is better suited.
Describe use outside of the office
A team in the field may need to work without a network, attach photos, read codes, and synchronize later. List which actions need to work offline and what happens when two users change the same record. Saving a screen on the device is not equivalent to resolving synchronization conflicts.
Separate application and administrative operation
Many quotes only include the mobile interface. Ask who manages users, corrects registrations, monitors activities and sets permissions. The administrative panel, APIs and integration with existing systems must appear explicitly in the proposal.
- User profiles and permissions by company or unit.
- Supported devices and operating system versions.
- Push, camera, location and justification for each permission.
- Publication in stores and account ownership.
Compare the cost of continuity
In addition to construction, there is hosting, external services, updating dependencies and adapting to platform changes. Define who responds to failures and how new features will be estimated. Avoid an upfront price that depends on accounts and components your business won't have access to.
How to reduce risk before development
A navigable prototype can test journeys with real users before integrating data. For critical features, a technical test on representative devices complements the prototype. Validate readability, completion time, and recovery after connection loss, rather than just evaluating appearance.
