B2B quantity discounts: explain which tier applies to the cart

2 min reading
Editorial illustration: B2B quantity discounts: explain which tier applies to the cart

A tier table does not explain whether discounts use individual products, product families or total order volume. The ambiguity emerges when buyers build mixed carts. Scope must represent the commercial rule actually authorized.

Choose the operating model before requesting a quote

Compare product-level tiers with grouped eligible products. Grouping may support family negotiations but requires comparable units. Do not add quantities from different pack sizes merely to unlock a better condition.

Summaries must show whether tiers were calculated before or after commercial exclusions. Changing an item must not retain a discount dependent on the previous composition. When individual negotiation exists, distinguish the public rule from approved exceptions and identify who is allowed to revise those exceptional commercial conditions.

Requirements to include in the proposal

  • Define tier eligibility by product or an authorized commercial grouping
  • Show comparable units and explicitly excluded products to the buyer
  • Recalculate changes while preserving an explanation of the applied discount tier

An acceptance test for this specific purchase

Build a hypothetical cart with different case sizes and a promotion-excluded product. Explain the calculation base and recalculate after removal without retaining a condition whose criteria are no longer met.
